About Mango Lassi
Mango lassi is the drink that introduced most of the world to lassi at all — the thick, golden, fruit-forward yogurt shake that has become a fixture on Indian menus from London to Bangkok. It is a relatively modern member of the lassi family, born when the everyday sweet lassi met India's obsession with the Alphonso mango, and it has since become the most-ordered of our three lassis by some distance, particularly with first-time diners and children.
Ours starts with the same whole-milk yogurt we set in the kitchen each morning, blended with mango pulp, a little sugar and a pinch of cardamom, then served chilled in a roughly 300ml glass. We use canned Alphonso pulp as our base rather than relying only on fresh fruit, and this is a deliberate honesty: Alphonso has a short season and is rarely at its best outside India, so the canned pulp gives a consistent, intensely aromatic mango flavour all year round. When good seasonal Thai mango is available the chef will fold some through for extra freshness.
Of the three lassis we serve, this is the thickest and sweetest — closer to a fruit smoothie than to a digestive drink, and almost a dessert in its own right. That richness makes it a natural partner for our spicier curries and tandoori plates, where the cool mango and dairy take the edge off the chilli. If you want something savoury, order the salted lassi instead; if you want the classic, order sweet; but if you want the crowd-pleaser, this is it. Vegetarian, with no artificial colouring — the colour comes from the mango.
