About Sangsom
Sangsom is Thailand's iconic spirit, a dark, molasses-based spirit often described as a rum that has been a national favourite since 1977. At around forty percent, it is rich, smooth and faintly sweet, and the way Thais drink it is half the fun: built into a tall glass over ice with soda or cola and a wedge of lime, the classic Sangsom bucket-and-soda of countless Thai nights out. We serve it from the bar as a single measure.
Sangsom's mellow sweetness and molasses depth make it a surprisingly good match for spiced food when served long. Mixed with soda over plenty of ice it becomes a refreshing highball that lengthens a meal and cools chilli heat, while with cola it turns into a sweeter, more indulgent drink that stands up to the boldest, smokiest dishes on the menu. It is a sociable, easy-going spirit made for sharing across a relaxed dinner.
Order it as a soda or cola long drink alongside our tandoori grills, a spicy curry, or a plate of biryani, where its warmth and sweetness play nicely against the char and the chilli. The bar will mix it to the strength you like. As with all our spirits, Sangsom is served from the bar only and never enters the kitchen, which stays pork-free and halal-friendly. Served to guests aged twenty and over under Thai law — and, as with any spirit, best enjoyed responsibly over the course of the evening.
