About Red Wine (Glass)
For diners who prefer red, we keep a house red available by the glass. Pairing red wine with Indian food has a reputation for being difficult, but the principle is simple once you know it, and a well-chosen red can be a lovely companion to the heartier, meatier dishes on our menu. Ask your server for the current pour, as the selection varies.
The reds that work best with spiced food are soft, fruit-forward and low in tannin. Wines in the style of a Shiraz, a Grenache or a Pinot Noir — juicy, ripe and gentle — complement the depth of a rich gravy without fighting it. The trap to avoid is a big, tannic, heavily structured red: tannin and chilli heat amplify each other, so a powerful Cabernet can make a spicy dish taste harsher and the wine taste more bitter. Softer and fruitier is almost always the safer and more enjoyable path.
A glass of red comes into its own alongside our robust, full-flavoured dishes — lamb and mutton curries, the smokier tandoori meats, a deeply spiced rogan-josh-style gravy, or a plate of seekh kebabs. The wine's fruit stands up to the richness while its softness keeps the spice in check. If you are unsure, tell your server what is on your table and they will help you choose between the red and the white. Wine is served from the bar only; our kitchen is pork-free and halal-friendly, with no alcohol in the cooking. Available to guests aged twenty and over under Thai law — please enjoy responsibly.
