About White Wine (Glass)

A glass of white wine is one of the more rewarding and underrated pairings with Indian food, and we keep a house white available by the glass for diners who would rather drink wine than beer with their meal. Ask your server for the current pour — the selection changes — but whatever the bottle, white wine has a natural affinity with the spice and aromatics of North Indian cooking that is worth understanding.

The key with Indian food is that crisp, aromatic and slightly off-dry whites tend to work best. A wine with a touch of fruit sweetness and bright acidity — think along the lines of a Riesling, a Chenin Blanc or a Gewürztraminer in style — cools chilli heat, echoes the perfume of cardamom and coriander, and refreshes the palate against richer dishes. Bone-dry, heavily oaked whites are the ones to avoid, as high alcohol and oak can clash with spice and amplify the burn.

A chilled glass of white is a particularly good match for our lighter and creamier dishes: paneer tikka, fish or chicken from the tandoor, a mild korma, or a vegetable curry. It also suits diners who find red wine too heavy alongside a big meal. Tell your server what you have ordered and they will point you to the better choice between our red and white. Wine is served from the bar only; the BHARAT kitchen remains pork-free and halal-friendly, with no alcohol used in the food. For guests aged twenty and over under Thai law — please drink responsibly.
